Turn Your Love of Pets Into Meaningful Work
Are you passionate about animals and take pride in the little details?
At Perna’s Pet Care, we believe exceptional pet care goes beyond the basics. It’s about providing thoughtful, attentive care that helps every pet feel safe, happy, and loved.
We’re looking for dependable, detail-oriented people who bring genuine love for animals into everything they do.
This job can be messy, muddy, physically demanding, and occasionally unpredictable. It can also be incredibly rewarding. You’ll build relationships with animals, give pet parents peace of mind, and make a real difference in the lives of creatures who depend on you.
You’ll celebrate puppy kisses, appreciate kitten head boops, have conversations with chickens, and occasionally wonder how one small dog managed to create that much poop.
If all of that sounds less like a dealbreaker and more like your kind of day, we’d love to hear from you!
Our Mission
To provide customized, high-quality care that meets the unique needs of every pet and pet family. We strive to create a stress-free experience for clients while ensuring pets feel safe, loved, and well cared for.
Core Values
Communication between the team and with our clients. Support from management while you’re in the field. Trust to work on your own and get the job done. On-going Education for our team to stay top of our field.
Expectations
-Be friendly, respectful, and professional with clients, coworkers, and the public.
-Return pets in the same or better condition than you found them
-Always remain calm and patient with animals
The Must-Haves
🌦️ You’re okay with working outside in all kinds of weather.
You’ll need to be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions and prepared with appropriate clothing and gear.
🔎 You’re detail-oriented.
The little things are actually the big things in pet care. Did the pet eat? Was the water bowl refilled? Did you notice a change in behavior, appetite, or bathroom habits? Was the door locked and the gate secured?
You’ll need to follow care instructions carefully, double-check your work, and notice things that others might overlook. Our clients trust us with their beloved family members, and the details matter!
🧠 You have good judgment and problem-solving skills.
Animals don’t always follow the plan. You need to stay calm, make thoughtful decisions, recognize when something is wrong, and know when to contact a client or ask for help. Safety always comes first.
🐕 You can handle a variety of animals.
Our clients come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and temperaments. You may care for energetic dogs, senior pets who need a slower pace, independent cats, nervous animals, or pets with special care instructions. You should be comfortable learning each animal’s needs and following appropriate handling and safety procedures.
📱 You have daily access to the internet.
You’ll need reliable daily internet access to check your schedule, receive updates, communicate with the team, review care instructions, and submit visit notes and photos through our required systems. Good communication helps keep pets safe and clients informed.
💩 You can handle the not-so-glamorous stuff.
Let’s be honest: animals are adorable, but they can also be messy. You need to be comfortable cleaning up dog poop, scooping litter boxes, dealing with vomit, cleaning accidents, and handling other normal pet messes. Woo!
🐾 You want to work for a boss who cares.
You deserve to feel valued, supported, and appreciated at work. We believe in treating our team with kindness and respect, communicating openly, and recognizing the important work you do.
What Else Makes Someone Great at This Job?
Beyond loving animals, our best pet care professionals share a few important qualities.
- Dependability: Pets rely on consistent care, and clients rely on you to show up when promised. Being punctual, responsible, and reliable is essential.
- Time management: You’ll need to manage your schedule, travel between visits, and arrive within assigned time windows.
- Clear communication: You can write accurate visit updates, share photos, report concerns promptly, and communicate professionally with clients and teammates.
- Patience and flexibility: Animals have their own personalities, routines, and moods. You can adapt without getting frustrated.
- Honesty and integrity: You respect clients’ homes, privacy, keys, access codes, and personal belongings. Trust is everything in this job.
- A willingness to learn: Every animal is different. You’re open to training, feedback, safety procedures, and learning new skills.

- Attention to safety: You follow leash protocols, secure doors and gates, avoid unsafe animal interactions, and recognize when a situation requires assistance.
- A professional attitude: You understand that pet sitting is a responsibility, not just a chance to hang out with cute animals. You take your commitments seriously, even when the weather is lousy or the litter box is particularly offensive.
